In our quest for area outings Andy ran across this gem. We loaded the kids onto the metro (of course!) on a Saturday afternoon, and off we went. The Engineering Family Week was a free fair that was set up in the middle of the museum, and it was really so much fun! Somehow we happened to split up as we worked our way around the booths - Cayden and I went one way, and Andy took the girls the other.
The kids had fun because there were so many hands-on things for them to make and do. Cayden got to put on goggles and catch popcorn as it was flying through the air, and the girls and Andy made the Mars Rover.
Here are the girls showing off the structure they built out of legos to withstand a Tsunami, and keep their lego man from getting swept away. Once they build the structure they placed it in a wave tank and the demostrators let loose the tsunami! With a little help from their dad they were successful (as were Cayden and I when we did ours).
I think the favorite event was shooting off the 'bottle rocket'. We got to build a paper rocket, and slide it over a piece of pipe which was attatched to a rubber tube. On the other end of the tube was an empty plastic bottle. When the kids jumped on the bottle, their rockets took off!

Andy was happy because he got to build things, and Mason played with the spoils.
A successful outing for all!
But now we'll have to go back and see what exhibits the museum has to offer. It is the BUILDING Museum, after all!
