8 is Great!

August is Birthday Season in our family.

Lillian's is the 14th, and Cayden's is 6 days later, on the 20th. 

Andy is 3 days after that; the 23rd.

But this one was all about CAYDEN!

8 years old - who know time could go by so quickly?

I asked Cayden what he wanted for dinner on his birthday, and his response was Peanut Butter and Jelly sandwiches.  So I tried to at least make them good, and made homemade wheat bread and strawberry jam, but Andy got home from work and convinced Cayden that he wanted to order pizza for his birthday instead.  So that's what we did.

We also planned to have a birthday party for Cayden and his friends, but they were all going to be out of town on his birthday, so we held off on that for a few weeks.  So it was just us on his birthday.



He let the girls help open his presents.  What a good big brother!

Cayden had asked for a farm lego set for his birthday.

Good thing we have a Lego store at our mall, because those things are hard to find!

But he got it!

at the very last minute, he also asked for a Green Machine, which is like a Big Wheel for bigger kids.  It has an adjustable seat and all sort of levers to make the wheels move in different directions.  Its actually pretty cool.

His friend across the street had one, and the kids LOVED to play on it.  But they moved away at the beginning of the summer.  I was able to order one online, and to my surprise, it showed up at our house right as we were starting to open presents.

What luck!

Cayden, being Cayden, told me that he wanted a cherry cake for his birthday.  I had never seen a cherry cake, so he then chose a strawberry cake.  He also said that he wanted it to be a farm cake with animals on it.

Hmm...  I have terrible luck making cute cakes for my kids' birthdays, and he was making this really hard for me!

I compromised with him, and said that we could make cupcakes with animals on them for his birthday party, and for his real birthday we could do Strawberry Shortcakes.

They were SO good!

Just look at all these happy faces!

They're also slightly sunburned faces...we had spent the day at the lake, and no matter how much sunscreen I put on them, the kids always come home with pink cheeks!

Anyway, the cake was a hit!  We loaded Cayden's up with 8 candles, and he blew them all out!

And then ate the whole cake.

Good job, Cayden!

After the kids went to bed, Andy spent the evening putting together the green machine.

And testing it out...

The weight limit is up to 185 lbs, afterall!
